Pope recalls Chapecoense soccer players killed in the plane crash

During his greeting to the Portuguese-speaking pilgrims at the General Audience, Pope Francis  recalled the victims of the plane crash in Colombia. There were 71 people who died, most of them members of the Brazilian soccer club, Chapecoense.
POPE FRANCIS
"Also today I would like to remember the pain of the people of Brazil because of the tragedy with the soccer team, and pray for the deceased players and their families. In Italy we understand this well because we remember the Superga Tragedy in '49. They are hard tragedies and we pray for them."

In that accident 31 players were killed from one of the great European teams of the moment, the Torino soccer team, the winner of the last five Italian championships.
On Tuesday, Pope Francis sent a telegram to Colombia and Brazil in which he expressed that he is "deeply distressed" and that he is praying for the victims and their families.
